Knights Compete in Forsyth Seven on Seven Tournament By Josh Gish
The Upson-Lee Knights travelled to Forsyth on Friday to compete in Mary Persons High School’s annual Middle Georgia Passing Tournament for further preparation for 2013.
With significantly shortened field dimensions and game clocks, the passing games made for a very fast-paced and exciting atmosphere. A team’s defense was awarded two points for holding the opposing offense without a scoring drive, while a touchdown was worth six points on offense. Extra points were also awarded with another shot at the end zone.
UL competed alongside a significant number of high schools on the day, including Luella, Central Macon, Ola, Jones County, Mary Persons, Eagles Landing, Dublin, Heritage, Dooly County, Putnam County, Northeast Macon, and Veterans.
Though the tournament was cut short due to our seemingly never-ending thunderstorms as of late, the Knights did get countless reps in on offense and defense to hopefully knock out some of the week one jitters that are seemingly inevitable to even the most seasoned players.
The Knights were able to compete in four pool games prior to the rain’s cancellation of bracket competition.
UL opened up the day’s events with Luella High School, and suffered a disappointing 15-6 loss. Their first of two victories on the day would come over Mary Persons High School with a 31-12 defeat of the Bulldog hosts. The Knights went on to be defeated by Eagles Landing 28-24, and knock off Putnam County by a score of 15-6.
The rain began soon after the whistle was blown following the UL-Putnam game, and promptly ended competition in Forsyth. The Knights took on Mary Persons in yet another passing game yesterday, but results were not available by press time.
